Assistance or Companion Animal Addendum

Properly following Fair Housing guidelines for assistance/companion animals while protecting the owner’s asset can be tricky for property managers. Including this Assistance/Companion Animal Addendum, when needed, as part of the lease agreement can set clear guidelines and fairly assign liability for issues that may arise.

This three-page document collects necessary information about the animal(s), sets guidelines for care and behavior of the animal(s), and assigns liability and provides for termination of the lease, if needed. Also included is a provision for a responsible party designation, in the event that the resident is unable to care for the animal.
